Current Research

My research focuses on the effects of road culverts on stream crossings in the upper Cheat River basin. I specifically look at the effects on stream and streamside salamander populations, and if culverts act as barriers to upstream movements of salamanders. I perform salamander surveys above and below culverts to compare differences in population parameters. Surveys are also performed on reference streams that do not have culverts. In addition the effects of predatory fish on salamanders are also being examined. This study is part of a larger study on culverts and their effects on stream biotic communities and the geomorphic stability of streams.
