Peggy Pings is an Outdoor Recreation Planner and
Program Manager of the WV Field Office of the Rivers,
Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program (RTCA) of the National
Park Service. This field office was created at WVU in August
1995 to provide more efficient support for community-based conservation
projects in the Allegheny Mountain region.
The "Rivers and Trails Program" offers technical
assistance to communities and non-profit organizations. We work
outside of the National Parks, as an outreach program. We support
the grassroots movement of community-based protection of those
places that are important to local communities: nearby rivers,
open space for the community, trails linking town & country,
etc. We help communities turn their ideas into
results, with a strong focus on public participation.
To request assistance on a project or to discuss
an idea for a project please feel free to call or write.
Background & Interests:
Peggy has been involved as a volunteer in rails-to-trails
conversion projects, a state park foundation,
a watershed project, a community center, a food cooperative, a
skate park project, and resolving teen issues. She has a small
family of husband and two sons. They like to travel, camp, canoe,
swim, bicycle, and go to music & dance festivals. Ever since
Peggy turned 30, improving the sense of community has become a
priority in both her personal and professional life. She has found
that voluntarism is the often the catalyst to action, as well as
great experience for career development.
Peggy often provides resources to WVU students
for their coursework, links students with service-learning
projects or internships, and is a guest speaker
in a number of classes.
