WDSC 351. Forest Products Protection. 3 hr. PR: WDSC 223. Biological organisms responsible for deterioration of wood products, their control by preservative methods, and study of fire retarding methods. (2 hr. Lec., 1 hr. Lab.)
WDSC 362 . Forest Products Decision-Making. 4 hr. PR: Junior standing in Forestry. Decision-making tools and techniques used by the forest products industry such as simulation-linear programming, network analysis, forecasting, game theory. (4 hr. Lec.)
WDSC 400. Forest Measurement Field Practice. 3 hr. PR: Wood Industry major, FOR 205, CE 200, FMAN 222. Application of surveying and mensurational practices with emphasis on field problems.
WDSC 401. Wood Science and Technology Field Trip. 1 hr. A one-week trip to observe manufacturing methods and techniques of commercial wood industry plants. Plants visited include furniture, plywood, veneer, hardboard, particle board, pulp and paper, sawmilling, and preservation.
WDSC 413. Wood Chemistry. 3 hr. PR: Wood Industry major or consent, and CHEM 231 or 233. Chemical composition of wood including cellulose, hemicellulose and extractives; chemical processing of wood. (2 hr. Lec., 1 hr. Lab.)

Analysis of ground-based and cable harvesting systems, including time and motion studies, productivity and cost analysis, occupational safety and health, environmental issues, equipment evaluation and selection, and trucking of forest products. WDSC 460 . Plant Layout for Wood Industries. 3 hr. PR: Senior standing. Relates knowledge of wood product processes to optimize production. Study of proper arrangement of machines, and work and storage areas. (2 hr. Lec., 1 hr. Lab.)
WDSC 465 . Wood-based Composite Materials. 3 hr. PR: WDSC 232, 340, and 341. Fundamental of manufacturing wood-based composite materials, including processing, products, evaluation, and applications in the marketplace. (2 hr. Lec., 1 hr. Lab.)
WDSC 491 . Professional Field Experience. 3 hr. PR: Approval of planned program; junior or senior standing recommended. Prearranged experiential learning program, to be planned, supervised, and evaluated for credit by faculty and field supervisors. Involves temporary placement with public or private enterprise for professional competency development. (Pass/Fail Grading.)

WDSC 562. Forest Products Operations Research Models. 3 hr. PR: WDSC 362 and demonstrated knowledge of Fortran and Basic, or consent. Analysis of operations research models currently used by the forest products industry. Students will develop new models. (Offered in spring of even years.)
WDSC 665. Probability Models in Forestry Related Research. 3 hr. PR: Graduate student standing, STAT 512 or equivalent, CS 15 or consent. Introduction to the development and application of probability based models. Simulations of single multiple and correlated random variates. Modeling techniques, static ( Monte Carlo ) simulations, queuing models and period modeling.
